Botox® Q&A

Why have Botox®?

Don’t you want to feel good about yourself, look fresh, younger, more alive? Wrinkles can cause quite a negative effect on a person’s self-esteem and sense of well being, even impacting on their social life and career opportunities.

Is it for me?

Why not? 90% of patients who have had Botox® come back for repeat treatments and would recommend it to a friend or relative.

Is it safe?

It is actually one of the safest prescription drugs ever marketed. 50 times the amount used in most treatments would have to be given before harmful effects occur. You are also in the hands of qualified, experienced doctors in an established medical practice, here at Peaseway.

How long does it last?

Usually in the range of 2-6 months, on average about 3.

What is the procedure?

Minute quantities of Botox® solution are injected with very fine needles around the wrinkles of the upper face, around the eyes, the forehead and frown lines. (If treatment is needed in other areas we may be able to help using “Dermal Fillers”) You feel a slight pressure rather than a needle prick. No anaesthetic is necessary and after the 20 minutes procedure you are free to go about your daily routine. Why not have it during your lunchtime? It is that easy.

Excessive sweating

Hyperhydrosis
Hyperhydrosis is better known as excessive sweating and is a major problem for many people. It’s not a topic often discussed, and suffers often try to hide it, as with profuse sweating comes dampness to the skin and surrounding clothing and usually an unpleasant odour. In fact the odour only occurs when the sweat remains on the skin for a long time and therein forms a breeding ground for bacteria. Focal hyperhydrosis is the term given to a specific area of the body, such as hands and armpits.

Here’s a simple solution to an uncomfortable problem. If excessive sweating is holding you back this might be the answer you’re looking for. This safe and effective treatment blocks the action of the sweat glands and ensures you’re dry and comfortable when the heat is on.

Treatment:
Botulinum toxin has been found to be effective in the management of excessive sweating. It is a bacterial protein, which acts by blocking certain nerve impulses. Before skin treatment commences, a powder is dusted loosely over the area, which allows the overreaction sweat glands to be identified. The Doctor will inject Botulinum toxin into the skin, which enters the sweat glands and specifically blocks the nerve impulses ability to react. Other functions of the nerves such as sensation of touch are not affected.

How long does it last?
The treatment usually lasts 8 months before a top up is required.

Does it hurt?
A topical anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment but is not always needed as discomfort is minimal.
